Kraft Plus August DT share

This is my second share as a design team member for Kraft Plus, one of my favourite challenge sites. Here is the new challenge:

This was a fabulous challenge, as I got so creative with the background. I was so inspired by these photos taken in Singapore, and I really wanted to tell the story of these stairs, a tribute to some of our service men from WW2. 

I started with a brick stencil, and texture paste, and then started to add the colour, and sprays to look like mould and discolouration seen in the photos on the bricks. Being that these steps are in the Singapore Botanical Gardens, the addition of the flowers was enough to finish this layout.

Kraft plus August challenge

Wow, the challenge at Kraft plus for August is really interesting. Here it is:

Now I knew I wanted to scrap a photo about trees, I mean when do  you actually get to do that any other time, lol. I had another photo that I thought about using, but then decided on these ones of the Supertree Grove in Singapore. They are these "trees", made from steel posts, and there are loads of them. Some of them are covered in vines and have gardens at the base of them. There is also a "tree top walk" from tree to tree. It is a really cool place and one I recommend if you go to Singapore. 

So now about my layout. I had an idea in my head to create a tree from toothpicks. Do you know how hard that is? It just didn't work out as I had it in my head, so after much fiddling, gave that up as a bad joke, lol. I had a chipboard tree that I used, and wrapped some vine around it, to replicate the vines on the steel trees. I also had a die cut, of a scribble image, which I kind of manipulated, to look a little like the trees, if you use your imagination it works, lol. This I placed behind the tree with vine. 

I used some mixed media on my background - texture paste and leaf stencil, stamping and finished the layout with a Charms Creations arrow and terrific tab. Charms Creations is one of this months sponsors for the challenge, and of course I am on the DT.

Kraft + April challenge

Well the April challenge at Kraft + did not fail to inspire me yet again. I have so enjoyed these challenges and done every one of them since the challenges started, thanks Sandra. Here is the challenge:

I actually started with my background, which I created with my new gelli plate, my new favourite toy, lol. I searched for a photo that would work with it, then the visit to the paint shop to get my paint chips - easy!. This layout really just fell together without too much thought. I die cut from my paint chips and also added a whole piece as a mat for the photo. Of course a Charms Creations embellishment had to adorn the page, this time a lollipop.

Singapore Cactus Garden

White With 1 January challenge

I've been scrapping with my friend Alz Callcott, this weekend, and after a weekend of making layouts, and feeling finished, she challenged me to another challenge. "Do the White With 1 challenge" she said. "It's green, and you know how much I hate green", I said. She said, "do the challenge, and set yourself a time limit to do it". I said, "Ok, I'll do it in 1 hour". Game on. I did the challenge, and I did it in 1 hour and 1 minute - go me, lol.
I am glad Alz challenged me to the challenge, as I have been wanting to scrap this photo from the Singapore Zoo,  for a while now, and without her pushing me I wouldn't have done it. I still hate green though.
So I used a Kaisercraft die to cut out some leaves, (purchased that over the weekend, when we went shopping - shhhhh!) Perfect die for this layout. I used another sizzix die from Alz stash, and voila, I had a layout on my hands.

I also added a Charms Creations DIY map marker to my layout, which I stamped on then sprayed with glimmermist. The flairs are from D-lish Scraps. 

I am so very pleased with the way this layout turned out, even though I hate green, and even though I did it so quickly - less thought more just doing!

Scrapping Outback June "White with a twist" Challenge

The June "White with a twist" challenge at Scrapping Outback is to use the following image as inspiration:

It's a pretty awesome image, makes me want a mint thick shake with chocolate, yum.

Anyway, I chose a photo taken in Singapore last year, as it had a lot of greenery in it. I don't usually like working with green, but this one captured my imagination, and I had a lot of fun playing. I guess the overall design is ok, I don't think it is what I first envisaged. 

I started with a Kaisercraft patterned paper to which I sprayed with Lindy's stamp gang, then stencilled using a Scrap FX stencil and texture paste, to create a tropical leafy feel. I rubbed some metallic lustre over this. My chipboard pieces are from Buzz and Bloom and I added Tim Holtz distress embossing powder to this. Under the photo is a range of scrap papers and some torn cardboard. I then added the whole layout to a piece of chipboard to frame it.

Kraft+ June Challenge - In the Jungle

Wow, Sandra at Kraft + has created yet another fantastic challenge or June, the inspiration board is titled "in the jungle", and the challenge is to use animal print and circles:

This one is a whole load of fun, and I knew exactly which photo to scrap - one of the white tigers at the Singapore Zoo from our visit there last year. Tigers are my favourite animal, and these white tigers were beautiful. They looked pretty hot on this particular day though - it was muggy!

I had the perfect Charms Creations embellishments to use for the challenge, which are currently in store and are perfect to use. I used the arrows that are available in a set of various embellishments, or on their own. 

I decided to take the jungle theme to the full extent, as the tiger enclosure was very jungle like, hence all the greenery on my layout with the leaves and the jungle vines. I had the flair buttons from Funky Flairs Studio which were also perfect for this layout, and I turned the zebra stripe on it's side to replicate the tigers vertical stripe. I found these fantastic thickers in the tiger stripe, and to tie it all together, I coloured the word tiger in with an orange Wink of Stella pen, as they were originally white. 

I love how this one turned out.

Kraft+ March Challenge

The March challenge at Kraft + is to use the following guidelines for inspiration:

I recently went to the E2C retreat in South Australia, so this was one of the challenges I did whilst on retreat. I also got to meet Sandra Wallace, the creator of Kraft +, so very thrilled to meet Sandra in person.
I loved this challenge once again, and chose a photo from our trip to Singapore last year. The all that glitters theme worked well for this photo, as this hotel is one rather opulent hotel in Singapore, the top of the hotel shaped like a ship, which is in fact a swimming pool.
I used glitter, glitter washi tape, sequins, prima crystals and bling, and gold paint on this layout. The title is from Bella glitter chipboard alphas.

Scrap Around The World February challenge

For the February challenge at Scrap Around The World, the challenge was to use the mood board as below:

Now ordinarily I am not a lover of all things green, but this mood board did speak to me, and after seeing so many of the gorgeous layouts going up on facebook, I thought why not - give it a go, it's a challenge after all. 

I had a couple of photos I was looking at scrapping for the challenge, but decided on this one, of these really funky lily pads in the Singapore Botanical Gardens, taken on our holiday there last year. 

I was inspired by the colours in this mood board, and the flower in the girls hair. 

I was given some old flowers from a friends mothers craft stash, the organza lilies that I placed on the layout. I think they finished off my layout. I have also included some Little Birdie burlap flowers, some resin flowers and paper flowers, so a range of different types of flowers. I really enjoyed getting creative with the background, with the texture paste, stencil, misting and stamping and just letting it all happen.

D-lish Scraps January Inspiration Board Challenge

I would like to share my layout I designed for the D-lish Scraps January Inspiration Board Challenge, my contribution for the inspiration team. I certainly I hope I am able to inspire some of you to have a go at this challenge. Below is the very bright, and colourful board for this month:

January Inspiration Board

I had a lot of fun with this board, and it suited my photo perfectly. The photo was taken last year (wow seems strange saying that now), whilst my husband and I were in Singapore - a very tropical place - and of course one has to have a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel.

For this layout, I was inspired by the very bright colours and the pineapple.

I snuck a lot of D-lish products onto my layout - D-lish Scraps journal it's, D-lish Scraps button flair, the gorgeous new Little Birdie boutique elements paper florettes and serenade strawberry fields, Freckled Fawn enamel arrow clip, D-lish Scraps mini roses, sequin bow.
