Time for the second challenge for August at CSI colour challenges, case file # 236.

How much fun is this challenge? Great for travel layouts, or boy, or girl as well if you wanted. 

I chose to scrap a photo of my husband, taken on our Hawaiian holiday from last year. We went on an open door helicopter flight over an active volcano. It was an exciting thing to do, but scary at the same time, well for me anyway, lol. So this is what I have documented about. 

The evidence I used is stripes, wet medium (texture paste), twine. triangles, buttons and ombre (coloured texture paste). 

I also added a Charms Creations arrow and terrific tab.

White With 1 August DT share

August! How fast this year has gone. A new month, brings a new challenge. The new challenge at White with 1 is a beauty. Here is the colour, silver light:

Initially I wasn't inspired by this colour, but when I searched through my photos, I had a great idea come to mind. I really wanted to allow the silver to shine, so I used a lot of mixed media, with stamping, stenciling, texture paste, silver embossing powder, silver spray and silver paint over the texture paste. I coloured the chipboard with silver paint as well. I die cut using silver cardstock, added some silver crystals and chipboard die cuts. The finishing touch was the Charms Creations silver glitter heavenly heart. The silver theme was perfect with the soft hues in the photo. 

I will actually admit, that this is one of my favourite personal pieces. Just a bit disappointed the shine isn't as obvious on the screen.

CSI case file 322, Design Team share

So the new challenge at CSI colour challenge has been released, challenge 322:

Ok, I will admit it, when I did my layout for this challenge, my head space was not in it, and I struggled with the challenge. The challenge is awesome, so I hope you are able to give it a go, and enjoy the process. 

For the evidence, I used wood background, wood accents, animals, foliage and enamel dots. I documented about the outdoors for the testimony and was also inspired by the word explore. I really wanted to use this photo of my husband bush walking.

Scrap the Boys June challenge

So it's winter, already!. It is wet and drizzly here in Melbourne this weekend, perfect weekend for scrapping. So I have managed to get this challenge done for Scrap the Boys.

So for this challenge, I was basically inspired by the colours, even though I struggle to scrap with such restrictive tones of black and white. However, for this challenge, I chose to get grungy, and I had fun with it. 

My husband, for as long as I have known him (30 years) has always wanted a Ford Mustang. Every time he sees one, he is literally drooling, lol. One day, he might just get one - maybe it will be our retirement car - hahaha. So this photo is of him admiring a Mustang, at a display of vintage cars in Melbourne on Australia Day. 

I stamped the background with a variety of stamps, then used the patterned papers, corrugated cardboard and washi tape to create the rest of the background. I used Charms creations chevrons and a tab to embellish with. I am really pleased with this layout, despite my hesitations with black and white. My husband even really loved this layout, lol.

D-lish Scraps DT share - All you need is love

I'm back for my second share of the month at D-lish Scraps. This layout is for the February D-lish Scraps inspiration board challenge.

I really loved the colours in this one, not your typical reds for something about love, and I really loved the gold. So from this board I was inspired by the gold, hearts, flowers and the word love in the quote. 

I scrapped this layout of my husband and I, he was sneaking a quick kiss on Christmas Day, we were taking some quick family photos before the day got busy, and this is what he did, lol. 

On my layout, I have used a bitty bag, monochrome journal its, and a carnation. 

For my title cluster, I have used a Dusty Attic word title, flair button, Corbett Creations wood veneer bow, paper leaf, heather sprig, wax blossom and alder flower (no longer available). 

I have repeated a smaller cluster to the left side of the photo.

So if you haven't already had a go at the inspiration board, why not give it a go, try alternate colours for your loved up photos.

Charms Creations Australia Day Challenge

So this month at Charms Creations, we are having 2 challenges for everyone to have a go at. Actually this one is a carry over from January. To use a map marker for Australia Day.
I created this layout, selfie photo of my husband and myself, on a day out in Melbourne City, for Australia Day. We had a lot of fun, roaming around, looking at all the festivities happening and visited the Shrine of Remembrance and the Botanical Gardens - tourists in our own city.
Charm has a selection of 2 map markers specially available for your Australia Day photos. I chose the blue and red one, I guess I still feel with our flag, that these are the colours that represent Australia.

I also used one of the new large cute clouds, along with some other wood veneer clouds from Cocoa Vanilla.

I love how this layout turned out, not just presenting our Australia, but also a nice sunny summer day out.

Charms Creations November challenge - creative team share

This month at Charms Creations, we have this really fun MOvember inspired layout to play along with:

So for this challenge, I chose to use a photo of my husband, way back when he used to wear a moustache, and he wore it when we got married, and were on our honeymoon. It was an 80's thing, lol. 

I chose to use an "O" and a terrific tab, found in the Charms Creations big cartel shop, to which I have added moustache buttons to. 

My overall layout design was inspired by this sketch:

This is a really cool challenge, so I really hope you give it a go.

CSI colour challenge #178 - Charms DT share

So this month at the international challenge site CSI colour challenge, Charms Creations is one of the sponsors. So we as creative team members at Charms Creations were invited to participate as guest designers at CSI, for 3 of their challenges.
I have chosen to do the first week of the challenges that we were invited to do, which is this:

I used to do these challenges a long time ago, but then stopped doing them, I had forgotten how much fun they are. So the idea is to use the colour scheme, choose clues from the evidence list - which are your embellishments, and the testimony is what you are scrapping about. The scene obviously sets up the idea behind your layout. The first challenge of the month also can use the sketch that is provided, which I did. 

For my layout, the testimony I chose was to scrap a selfie photo, of my husband and I out for the day, on a sunny Melbourne day back in February this year. I also used typewriter font. From the evidence list, I chose to use camera, filmstrip, stamp, arrows, metal (wire), word stickers and flair badge. I had a lot of fun with this. I used 2 of Charms Creations arrows on my layout.
I've also used some cute flairs from Funky flairs studio. 

So if you are looking for a bit of different inspiration, why don't you give this challenge a go?

September Scrap the Boys challenge

For the September challenge at Scrap the Boys, there is a sketch to use:

It's a great blokey sketch, but then could also be translated for a little dude as well, quite a few possibilities. 

I chose to do a blokes layout. I had this photo of my husband and his best mate taken at our daughters 21st birthday party, which was a Burlesque theme. An awful lot of the guys dressed as gangsters, which is what these 2 did. 

So for my layout, I wanted to try to achieve that feeling of money/flashiness etc.  

I had this patterned paper from a My Mind's Eye collection, with all the flashy silver on it. I used this as my inspiration with the sketch. I kept to a monochromatic theme, and added the bits of silver and bling to it- nothing wrong with bling on a blokes layout. I had this car paper clip, which I found at Office works, which I thought worked well. I also had one of the new embellishments that will be released soon at Charms Creations. I used the moustache with a DIY diamond, to which I stamped and added silver embossing powder. Diamonds are another touch that I felt went with the gangsters/money theme. I quite like the overall effect of this, no mixed media as such to speak of, but hey, that's ok.

Deer and Fawn August Challenge

This month at Deer and Fawn, the challenge is  to create a layout about something you are thankful for, and using the image as inspiration, use flowers on the layout.

I decided to scrap about being thankful for such little things such as sunshine, spending time with a loved one, and coffee.

My husband and I recently celebrated our 27th anniversary, so we went away for it to a small town called Queenscliff - it is one of Victoria's historical towns. My husband took this photo of me, enjoying my coffee in the glorious winter sunshine. There is nothing better than sunshine in winter, and on this particular weekend, it was sunny the whole time, and it was wonderful to feel the sun on my face - I am very thankful for it, as a respite to the awful winter we have had. 

I chose some Basic Grey patterned papers, I inked around the edge of the cardstock with Kaisercraft stamps, added some texture paste, and embellished with a bunch of Prima flowers and some others that are layered under the Prima ones, Also a scattering of wood veneer and to top it off a Charms Creations butterfly heart.

Show Us Your Stuff July Challenge

Wow what a challenge this month at Show Us Your Stuff. It is to feature your handwriting. Now I know many of us cringe at the thought of this, but we need to embrace it - it's just an extension of ourselves. I know for sure mine has changed a lot over the years, but it's mine - no one else has my handwriting.
I chose this photo of myself and my husband taken recently on a holiday - I was taking selfies - as you do. I set it aside for a rainy day. That rainy day came just recently, when I was having a bad weekend - everything I touched went wrong - and I mean everything, including flooding the laundry. My husband didn't know about the laundry mishap, but he came home with a bunch of flowers that afternoon, and it just made the day better. He is often trying to do small things that make me feel good, and this is what I journaled about in my layout.
The handmade items I have included on my layout include a Charms Creations mini heavenly heart and a Funky Flairs Studio flair. I die cut the feathers and arrow, which I mounted.
I am so pleased with the end result of this layout. When my husband read it, he had a huge grin on his face, and now his new mantra is "it's the little things".

Scrap the Boys June challenge

For the June challenge at Scrap the Boys, there is an awesome sketch to use:

I really loved working with this sketch, so very, very cool for a male layout, I can see myself doing another one. I chose these 3 mini prints of my husband and my son, which I took last Fathers Day, of them just sitting and being together enjoying each others company. 

My layout background was created on Teresa Collins paper, to which I had tried doing some stencilling on for another layout, but made a mess of that, set it aside, but was able to pull it out and use it for this challenge -waste not, want not, especially Teresa Collins paper. 

I then added more to the background with a TCW stencil and Tim Holtz inks and then splatters of dylusions ink. I added a heap of cotton thread and then built my layers with some old scrap Basic Grey and Kaisercraft captured memories cards. The words are cut out from Teresa Collins co-ordinating paper. The embellishing otherwise is kept pretty simple, only the naughts and crosses/plusses embellishments from Charms Creations, and a flair button. 

I love the overall effect of this layout, so do my boys.

Scrap the Boys March challenge

At Scrap the Boys for the March challenge, there is a sketch to be inspired by. I love sketches.

This was one of the kits I packed to take with me to the E2C retreat, and I had a lot of fun doing this layout. I chose a photo of my husband and his best mate, on a trip away in Tasmania a few years ago. As the title says, they were just chillin. 

I used a TCW stencil with coloured texture paste as one of the layers of the sketch, and then added my paper layouts with  a variety of papers and Kaisercraft PL style cards. I've added a Charms Creations map marker and a button flair, twine and Kaisercraft collectibles.

Scrap the boys September challenge

Again this month I have given the Scrap the boys challenge a go, and for September the challenge was DOMESITICATED. I had the perfect photo for this one, showing my two boys - husband and son, having a go at something domesticated. I decided to use a comical slant to my journaling for this one, don't want to get too serious. My boys do actually do the dishes and other domesticated stuff, perhaps not as often as I would like, but they do it.

I really enjoyed this challenge, and had a bit of fun creating my background. The very old Love Elsie patterned paper worked fantastically for my layout, and with a bit of creativity, I've turned old into new again. I love how the current trend of "project life" style cards can fit in with just about anything, and they added that bit of up to date to the old paper. I also used the Irresistables texture spray on my layout, particularly noticable on the arrow, it is really cool spray that has a resist nature to it, but also adds a bit of texture with a glossy feel to it.

This photo was taken 6 years ago, after a Christmas dinner with friends, how lucky was I to have it. Kieran has really matured a bit since this was taken, lol.
