Blue Fern Studios August challenge

This is the first time I have done one of the challenges at Blue Fern Studios, but I was inspired after seeing a layout by design team member Kim Price, who I had the pleasure of meeting at a retreat earlier this year. So this is the challenge:
This sketch is so beautiful, and the inspiration from all of the design team was so amazing, how could I resist it.
I chose a chipboard piece called Shabby Brick bits.
I used this photo of a niece's recent wedding, and kept the toning of my layout really soft and pretty. I stamped around the edge of the patterned paper with a variety of stamps, and also into the centre of the page, under the photo. I coloured the chipboard with Faber Castell texture luxe and then stamped over that. I added some mini prills around the chipboard. I die cut some patterned paper with a Couture Creations die and created a flower, to which I added some glass glitter, and then finished it all off with scattered flowers and sequins.
I really love how this turned out.
Thanks for looking at my layout and for any comments you may leave.

White with 1 August challenge

At White with 1 this month, the challenge is to use white with Custard:
I decided to use a patterned paper as my background, and then used the white and "custard" embellishments of that. I used some texture paste and a stencil over the patterned paper and sprayed with a white mist. Under my photo I added die cut white cardstock, cut with a Memory box die, to replicate the circles in the patterned paper, I love this die, it's really funky. I then added a variety of flowers, mostly Little Birdie flowers, which I think are my favourite flowers at the moment. I added a Charms Creations heart, and some wooden beads. I think my version of custard is a lemon custard, lol.
Thanks for looking at my layout and any comments you may leave.

Scrap the Girls August challenge

This month at Scrap the Girls, the challenge is to be inspired by this amazing moodpboard:
As soon as I saw this one, I knew I wanted to do this. I love the colours, and those Mason jars are so cute. I drew inspiration from the colours, the flowers and the word love.
I found this photo of my daughter from a few years back in my stash. She was bored so took selfies, as you do, lol (especially when you are watching your boyfriend play cricket).
Anyway, I used a stencil and texture paste mixed with gold as a background layer. I die cut some patterned paper using a Couture Creations die which I layered behind the photo. I had these awesome Charms Creations DIY embellishments to which I applied rub-ons to, and also used some of these rub-ons to the background. I then added my flowers and wood veneers. Pretty pleased how this looks, quite bohemian, but also very girls.
Thanks for looking at my layout, and for any comments you may leave.

Scrap the boys August challenge

The challenge at Scrap the Boys for August is a little different and a lot nice:
I really liked this as soon as I saw it, I loved the colour and I really loved the quote.
I chose a photo of myself and my son (seeing as we are allowed this month to include a mother in the photo), taken quite a few years ago now.
I had planned on some clean scrapping - pffft, that went out the window, that is way harder than mixed media - lol, it's for me a challenge to make it special. I tried a few things, and none of it worked. So mixed media it was. I had to rescue the Websters Papers patterned paper I had massacred, and cut out of it what I could. I grabbed some good old card stock, a Crafters Workshop stencil, and ink, and inked around the cardstock. I had tried using glitter with the stencil on the patterned paper, but most of that rubbed off, but it did leave a cool effect of the left over glitter - so not all bad  - lol.
I really liked the quote, so that became a feature on my layout. I recently acquired the Heidi Swapp clear banner, and I suppose it is fitting that I used that seeing as she recently lost her son. I used some new X, O and heart embellishments from Charms Creations, Freckled Fawn wood veneer, and Prima flowers to embellish.
Thanks for looking at my layout and any comments you may leave.

Kraft + August challenge

Oh my goodness, how awesome is the challenge this month at Kraft +!
Initially when I looked at this I thought no way Jose, will I be able to do this one, especially after seeing it done at E2C retreat by the lovely Marilyn Scholz. I mean to say - I can't draw, I am really good at stick figures, drawing and art is what my sister does, she's really good at it. Craft is my thing. So I was going to sit this one out. Anyway, I gave myself a good old talking to, and told myself, "just give it a go, what have you got to lose". So I did, and I am soooooo happy I did!
I had a different photo in mind when I started out, but when I got started, that photo didn't work for what I had created in my zentangling. So I hunted for something else and remembered that my daughter Melanie had done this glamour photo shoot, this photo being one of those she had taken. PERFECT photo, to go with my doodling.
I created my design by using a stencil as my base design, then the doodling started, and the colouring with some gelatos. The embellishing just then came together fairly quickly. I doodled on the Kaisercraft flourishes, added a Charms Creations heart, some crocheted flowers my mum made, and a lovely after 5's flower, and some flairs from Funky Flairs Studio
I really love how this layout turned out, I love that I persevered and did the zentangling.
Thanks for looking at my layout and for any comments you may leave.

D-Lish Scraps August Inspiration Board Challenge

So it's the 1st August, and I have already whipped up one of the August challenges - I can't believe it myself - usually it takes me to the end of the week to even get my head around the new challenges.  Here is the D-lish Scraps inspiration board challenge for August.
This challenge came along just at the right time for me. My daughter has been asking me for a couple of months now to scrap the photo I have used on this challenge - one of her friends wedding. Up till now I haven't been inspired to scrap this photo, but this inspiration board was perfect for it. I used a few of the flowers available in store from D-lish Scraps, as well as a button flair, and some of the journaling tags. I was inspired by the flowers, the heart and the sketch.
This is a fairly clean layout for me, no wonder I have managed to get it done on the first day of the month, lol.
Thanks for looking at my layout, and any comments you may leave.

Show Us Your Stuff Design Team layout for August challenge

For the August challenge at Show Us Your Stuff, there is a really awesome moodboard to create from:
I just love everything about this moodboard, it is so versatile.
This layout is what I created for my design team layout for this challenge. I chose this cute photo of nephew Levi, up on his fathers shoulders, photo taken recently on a family outing.
I was inspired by the woodgrain, the colours, the tape measurements, burlap, string, the font styles and the word you.
I chose a kaisercraft woodgrain patterned paper, to which I spread gesso and then some subtle paint colour to. I stamped using a date stamp randomly over the background. I added some really old patterned paper that had measuring tape images on it, (knew it would come in handy some day). Then I embellished using the chevrons, buttons, burlap, string and alphas.
I have included 3 Charms Creations chevrons, as my handmade items.
I hope you have a go at this challenge, it really does have endless possibilities, I might even have another go at it myself.
It's fun being with you
